 The Liturgy of The Word is an integral part of the Mass.  This part of the Mass represents an opportunity for the laity take an active roll.  The first reading usually comes from the old testament.  Although on the weeks after Easter many of the readings come from the new testament.  The readings from the Old Testament give us some background history of God’s chosen people.  They give us an understanding of why the coming of Jesus Christ was needed.

The second reading comes from the new testament mostly the letters of St. Paul.  In these letters, St. Paul is instructing the early Christians on the teachings of Jesus Christ.   

Qualifications:    Parishioner of high school age or older
                              Must attend an orientation session
                              Ability to enunciate clearly
                              Willingness to become familiar with the readings ahead of time
                              Willingness to practice
                               Love for the Word of God
